Welcome to the world of a dirty girl…
I had the shift from 10 A.M. – 2 P.M. trekking the hour drive from Milwaukee through the down pour; good for the mud run, but not good for me. (Note: The rain stopped as soon as I parked the car and the sunshine lasted all day.)
Milwaukee, WI The Dirty Girl Mud Run is unlike anything I’ve ever heard. So, I decided to volunteer to check it out and be a part of this female-only, 5K mud run designed for women of all fitness levels. The 11 military-inspired obstacles are fun and unique but with just enough hell to keep your palms a bit sweaty. And the entire event is designed to be organic and eco-friendly. In fact, many of the obstacles will be recycled back into the earth.
IOU Sports is seeking volunteers for the August 20, 2011 Dirty Girl Mud Run...
Girls for a Change was in Milwaukee to conduct the Love Your Body, Change the World training program sponsored by U by Kotex. The training was a guide for being proud of everything that makes you a healthy, powerful young woman, including your passion for creating social change in your community. Thanks in part to Alverno College Research Center for Women and Girls, the Girls in Charge Coalition, African American Women Fund Project and IOU Sports for creating this short intro film.
My Dear Young Athletes, like in all relationships it is all about giving and receiving. If you want to your body to perform at its peak then you need to fuel it with the purest fuel possible. Fruit provides the simplest form of complex sugars. It provides a quick refueling to the body to prevent you from hitting the wall; a term used by athletes to describe dehydration and fatigue. Bananas are great because they provide potassium, which is a great electrolyte to help the body hydrated. Bananas also give a good amount of sugar that will help keep you going.
No one likes to say it out loud, but in American culture girl’s sports rarely matter as much as the games played by the boys.
